The Salty Dog Bar & Grill in Council Bluffs

I am here for the first time and I really like this place!!! The staff is very friendly and professional! Delicious chicken wings with different sauces. My favorite dark beer is delicious! I recommend everyone!!!

Amazed with our meals compared to rating. Ordered pork tenderloin sandwich with onion rings and the chicken tenders with fries. Chicken tenders: As you can see the fries are overcooked, greasy and tasteless. The chicken was very tough, tasteless pieces of chicken breast slices. Not as the reviews state as "large pieces". The grease tasted old. Pork tenderloin sandwich: Thin and decent size sandwich. Crisp crust was over cooked and fried in old oil that overpowered any taste that the tenderloin might have had. Pickles were good. Onion rings were over battered and fried in the same old oil. No seasoning used on any of the items. Place was extremely busy. We won't return and do not recommend.

Glad they were open for dine in and take out. Had a great Mother Trucker burger! Fresh fries and tasty food. This place was very alive and happening... tons of people having a good time. Will definitely eat here again, the next time I'm in Council Bluffs, IA.

Good food, strong drinks, open late.

Food was amazing. Service was even better! Servers checking in on us every time we could need a drink refill or order another course. Wings were the best I've ever had! And shared a Philly steak sandwich that was incredible. Highly highly recommend! Great atmosphere!

Outside appearance doesn't do it justice. Inside is much better. Had a cheeseburger, fries, and wings. Wings were ok, Burger and fries weren't! Cheese curds were sub standard. Pros: great atmosphere and service. Cons: food needs a lot of work.

Usually great food and over the top service. Friday night Feb 6th the service was disappointing. After we got our food we were checked on once, about 2 minutes after the food arrived. After that we had to flag down service. Only 1 of us got a 2nd drink. Even had to ask for our bill. The girl that we got our ticket from said it was slow so they sent people home. That great, I get it, but not at the expense of service.

What a great find! Cool atmosphere, lots of locals. The food was fantastic. We had the Reuben, mac n cheese, shepherd's pie. Great craft brew plus classic dry martini. Recommend!!

The food and atmosphere is outstanding. The buffed/charred wings are a unique brand that could take the US on as a storm. I was frozen with delight after the Shrimp Scampi and the Wings I had. Inexpensive, popular, welcoming .Tap Beer is great tasting and fresh.Sierra is outstanding with her memory for customers preferences. All the staff is great.Well done Salty Dog. Please expand your business, come to the East Coast and show them the right level of food and entertainment business.My stay in Council Bluffs/Omaha has been nothing but a great experience.

Staff is friendly and fast. Beer selection is great. Food was pretty good. It was Sunday "all day" happy hour. They have all the NFL games.Happy hour beers were $7 for large Blue Moon drafts. Buffalo chicken sandwich was the special, and it cost $13.Price will probably not return because price.

One of my favorite spots. Always get awesome service. Couple of annoying truckers next to me as to be expected near the truck stop.

WE ARE FROM OUT OF TOWNOn the outside, this place doesn’t look ANYWHERE near like it serves edible food.However, AS SOON as I walked in, I was greeted by DJ. He was so good with my group, especially the kids! He made the everything fun, inviting, and welcoming.I asked him to help me order. First, he offered to make me a margarita! Wow! One of the best margaritas I’ve had. He waited until my meal arrived, which was appreciated!He invited me to try the cheese curds (fried cheese): delicious in their homemade ranch! He then recommended the ghost pepper wings, charbuffed: they were incredible, again: amazing in their homemade ranch!My friends ordered boneless buffalo wings: they were good as well. All of the foods and dressings are made in house and YOU CAN TELL! He then recommended that I order the Mother Trucker (burger)...so AMAZING! Nothing like it! Overall, if you are in the area: The Salty Dog Bar & Grill IS A MUST!

Excellent food. A very creative menu prepared well to get away from the standard fare of the national chains. Prepare to be surprised by something in every menu item.

We are on our way to our honeymoon and wanted a great place to relax before traveling. WELL WORTH IT! Reasonable prices and amazing staff! I got the chicken philly and my husband got wings.. they were HOT when served (which is rare to me to be served a HOT meal at a busy restaurant) and the waiters/waitresses worked as a team to make sure we had the best experience. We would go again for sure

This is your typical hangout place for a small town. I could not see whenever i go in this place. The drinks are good, but that's it.

The 1st time I ate at the salty Dog the beer was cold and the food was great. I had a spicy pork with coleslaw on a sandwich. Tonight My husband, friends, and I went there to have a nice dinner and visit. The beer was not that cold and the food was average. I had beef brisket sandwich. I love brisket and this sandwich tasted like prime rib. I do not care for prime rib. And not enough BBQ sauce. The music was so loud we couldn’t even visit without yelling at each other.

THE Salty Dog constantly, in all the years I have frequented them have had great WINGS! Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Everytime My Husband and I come into Council Bluffs, IA We go and eat at Salty Dog Bar & Grill. There Food is So Good!!! Chicken Wings, Hamburgers and also there Prime Rib Sub, Oh My Gosh !!! Very Very Nice Atmosphere and Wonderful Staff. You will not Regret Stopping here to Eat.

Wings are amazing! Cold beer and the Poutine is unbelievable. Service is top notch!

Is definitely a bar so be aware of that in the evenings. Fries are really good and I heard the chicken is definitely worth the wait.

We rolled in 16 deep and was seated immediately... Amazing wings (the chargrilled are boss) however heed this warning: the double dipped ghost pepper sauce... Is very very hot. Appetizers are fantastic especially the Buffalo poutine... Moderately priced, great service and friendly staff.

If you're looking for a local hangout spot, this is a definite. Lots of big, flat screens for various sporting events and games to play. The lighting could use an improvement. Wasn't a fan of the turkey bacon wrap but if you enjoy fried pork belly, you should definitely try the the pork belly fries. The batter is light but the pork could use more seasoning.

Food and atmosphere are amazing! I've been here on a few occasions. The food and atmosphere are so welcoming, peaceful and, at the same time, able to fill me with elation. While I waited for my food, only happy was in the air. When I interjected into conversation I felt welcomed and not snubbed like at so many other places I've been to. I FELT LIKE A HUMAN FOR THE FIRST TIME ON A LOOONG TIME. Thank you Salty Dog Bar & Grill owner, staff, and patrons. Did I mention the food is A-MAZing? Everything I've tried is so delicious. It's hard for me to try a new menu item. I do here because I promised myself I would. Sometimes I buy the same menu item twice on the same visit so I can bring one home. I don't break my promise that way. This time it was the the shrimp scampi. :D

Doesn't look like much from the outside but once you come inside it's a really nice place. It's welcoming and the staff are freindly. Enjoyed my quick visit, will come back in the future.

Went there on a whim and it was great! The service was friendly and fast! Got the burger and fries, big portions and very tasty! Would go back again!!

Not sure how small your gastronomic experience would have to be to consider their chicken wings "extraordinary.." They're not...by any reasonable standard. This is a bar/restaurant, this is pub food, so expectations can be lowered. Our service was prompt, the food was seved hot and the order was correct. About $50.00 for two people with tip. In summary...extraordinarily ordinary...

Thanks to the driver who told me about this place I just left there got a prime rib sandwich an the charbroiled wings an salad an let me tell you that sh$t right there is amazing. The staff that was there were great people to talk too thanks alot I'll see you again

My nachos were burnt and they served me the wrong order. This isn't typical but disappointing.

Love stopping in for a quick bite. Food is always good. Staff is friendly. Atmosphere is good. Tons of sports always on. Great neighborhood bar that's not in my hood.

Shockingly good went in just for a drink ended up stuffed and took food to go. Accidentally ordered pork belly fries thinking it was fries (it wasn't) ended up getting another to go for later seriously good food. Will absolutely be going back here

Good food, nice beer selection. They really need a printed beer menu, but everything else is great.
